UnlockingBrainTumors.org, NFP Organization Formed to Increase Brain Tumor Awareness and Fundraising, Raises nearly $7,000 for ABTA's 3rd Annual Brain Tumor Path to Progress 5K Run/Walk
HOLLAND, MI, May 4, 2008 - UnlockingBrianTumors.org, a Not for Profit dedicated to raising and distributing funds for the continued research into brain tumors, today announced that it raised nearly $7,000 in direct contributions across its team. The event, held April 26th in Chicago's Montrose Harbor, commits 100% of Path to Progress proceeds to support brain tumor research programs; in 2007, the American Brain Tumor Association awarded more than $2 million for brain tumor research across the US and Canada and its 2008 goal was $2.5 million. The UnlockingBrainTumors.org team, participating in the event for the first time, had nearly 30 participants and dozens of individual contributors to its effort. UnlockingBrainTumors.org was launched in September 2007 by Stephen Coffman, a former business leader who left the human resources marketplace after being diagnosed with cancer and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Overall, the Path to Progress event, which drew over 200 teams and 5,500 participants, has tallied more than $685,000 raised for the 2008 event with final accounting to be completed. "We are very pleased with our contribution to the ABTA from this event, and very appreciative of all of our donors and our participants. We felt that it was so important to be aligned with this event because of its specific focus on raising funds for brain tumor research, in line with our organizational mission", said Coffman. "The American Brain Tumor Association does so much important work on behalf of brain tumor survivors and their families, and we are very pleased to help support them as they support us". Coffman added that UnlockingBrainTumors.org will continue to look for events within the brain tumor community that it can support and which its growing team can be involved in, while simultaneously looking to launch its own events that further leverage its network and the work of the organization's volunteers. Raising funds to be directed toward research efforts will always be the organizations' top priority. The Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information is the organization's lead beneficiary. The Musella Foundation, based in Hewlett, NY and operated by Al Musella, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and survival times for brain tumor patients by using computer technology to track brain tumor clinical trials, streamline the flow of information, organize the brain tumor community and raise money for brain tumor research.
