UnlockingBrainTumors.org, NFP Organization Formed to Increase Brain Tumor Awareness and Fundraising, Announces Two Significant Donations
HOLLAND, MI, May 15, 2008 - UnlockingBrianTumors.org, a Not for Profit dedicated to raising and distributing funds for the continued research into brain tumors, today announced two large donations from charitable foundations, including its largest gift to date. The group is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 contribution from The Glickenhaus Foundation and $5,000 from the TJX Foundation, which UnlockingBrainTumors.org helped direct to its lead beneficiary, The Musella Foundation. The Glickenhaus Foundation, incorporated in 1960 in New York, supports a wide variety of charitable activities ranging from social services to civil rights to healthcare and medical research. For the fiscal year ended in November 2006, the Glickenhaus Foundation distributed more than 625 grants totaling nearly $2 million. The TJX Foundation is one of the community support arms of the TJX Companies (T.J. Maxx, and Marshalls and others). In 2007 the TJX Foundation supported nearly 1,100 nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and many other organizations in Canada, the U.K. and Ireland. Among its goals of community support and its many areas of focus, the TJX Foundation funds medical research that furthers the treatment of, or eliminates the impact of, congenital or chronic diseases. "We are honored to have received these gifts from two very generous foundations", said Coffman. "These are significant donations that will go a long way toward specific research initiatives, and we also feel they validate our mission and message. These organizations take seriously their missions to support a wide variety of worthy efforts, and we are delighted to be one of their recipients. Their gifts will be well used". Coffman added that UnlockingBrainTumors.org will soon report on how the funds will be directed, and will soon be launching an "impact gauge" on its web site that illustrates the specific research and projects it is helping to advance with the support of its donors. A gauge showing total dollars raised to date, along with a library of resource documents, are available at UnlockingBrainTumors.org. UnlockingBrainTumors.org was launched in September 2007 by Stephen Coffman, a former business leader who left the human resources marketplace after being diagnosed with cancer and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor. The Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information is the organization's lead beneficiary. The Musella Foundation, based in Hewlett, NY and operated by Al Musella, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and survival times for brain tumor patients by using computer technology to track brain tumor clinical trials, streamline the flow of information, organize the brain tumor community and raise money for brain tumor research. It operates www.virtualtrials.com, and has worked tirelessly and successfully to bring attention to clinical trials, patient outcomes, research, letter writing campaigns for expanded treatment options, and a great many other contributions to the community. The Musella Foundation has filled crucial gaps in the brain tumor community through its funding innovative and creative research, with a special emphasis on research that complements, rather than duplicates, the research funded by the federal government. # # # For More Information, Please Contact: www.unlockingbraintumors.org |
