HOLLAND, MI, August 25, 2008 - UnlockingBrianTumors.org, a Not for Profit dedicated to raising and distributing funds for the continued research into brain tumors, today announced that its First Annual Charity Golf Event, held last week, is expected to deliver $3000 in net proceeds for pediatric brain tumor research. The beneficiaries were chosen to help combat this killer disease; brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children under the age of 20, trailing only leukemia. The event, held August 18th at Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, IL, featured 35 golfers who came out to support the cause, and enjoyed excellent weather on a challenging course; the tournament style format also featured sponsored lunches and a cocktail hour. Sponsors of the event included the law firm of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, Express Evaluations, Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates, Ideal Project Group, JabberDesign, designsmith, Kathy Pierce/Silpada Designs, Leslie & John Haekel, Dr. Joseph Orban & Family and Ken & Nancy Widelka, as well as individual donations and In Memory Of and In Honor Of dedication signs. UnlockingBrainTumors.org was launched in September 2007 by Stephen Coffman, a former business leader who left the human resources marketplace after being diagnosed with cancer and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

"We are so very pleased at the success of our inaugural charity golf event", said Coffman. "From the participation of our golfers and our volunteers, to the support provided by our sponsors, donors and the course itself, the day was a successful celebration of all of those who are battling brain tumors, and a remembrance of those who we have lost." The donation to be given by UnlockingBrainTumors.org represents the latest support of brain tumor research by the organization, which has already directed significant funding toward research efforts as diverse as microbeam radiation treatment and drug therapies to quality of life studies. Plans for the 2009 event are already in the works, said event planner Mike Tancredi of UnlockingBrainTumors.org.
